Today, I was spending time with my family in a local amusement park. While my wife and son were falling in line, I was at the sidelines waiting for their turn in the bump car ride. Then I noticed this girl at the front of the line. Her face was as if she didn't want to be there. Indeed, she wasn't. I overheard her saying, "I don't want to ride this." But since she was with her friends, she had no choice. She had to ride the bumper cars. But her heart was not into it.
Soon enough, it was her turn. As her other friends raced towards their bumper cars, she was casually walking towards one car at the side of the rink. She hopped inside still with that smirk on her face. Then the music played signaling the start of the ride. She stepped on the pedal and the car began to move.
Unfortunately, since she was near the sides, her car got stuck. She tried in vain to turn the wheel clockwise and counter-clockwise. While her friends were having a wonderful time slamming each others cars, still she couldn't get the car to move. Her face still had that smirk. Still, her heart was not into it.
After a few more attempts, she finally got unstuck and began to move. Her car started to move and it gained some speed. I looked at her face. It started changing. It is as if she is starting to enjoy the ride. Slowly, she's putting her heart into this simple childish bumper ride.
Then, the bell rang. RRRIIIINNNGGG!!! IT'S OVER. Just when she started to put her heart into it, it was too late. There was no more time. I could see on her face that she wanted the ride to continue but it was over. So she stood up and left.
We're like this sometimes. We go into things without our whole heart in it. Then, when we start to enjoy it or it slowly grows on you, the ride is over. We wasted precious time and energy. We could have given our best in the beginning. But we chose not to and just smirk all the way.
Should you do something today, put your whole heart into it. Give it your best. Enjoy the ride because it won't last long. And by the time's end, you can say that put your whole heart into it.
